Popular Science Knowledge What is V/F control?

V/F control, or voltage/frequency control (VOLTAGE/FREQUNCY CONTROL), is a basic method for frequency converters to control motors. It controls the speed of the motor by changing the voltage and frequency of the motor at the same time, so that the motor can maintain a constant magnetic flux at different speeds, thereby ensuring stable torque output.

Working principle of V/F control

1. Basic principle

A. The speed of the motor is proportional to the frequency of the power supply: Speed = 120* frequency/number of poles.

B. In order to keep the magnetic flux of the motor constant, it is necessary to ensure that the ratio of voltage to frequency (V/F ratio) is constant.

2. Control method

A. When the motor speed needs to be changed, the frequency converter adjusts the output voltage and frequency at the same time to keep the ratio of the two constant.

B. For example, if the frequency is reduced from 50HZ to 25HZ, the voltage is also reduced from the rated voltage to half of the rated voltage.

Advantages of V/F control

1. Simple and reliable

V/F control technology is mature, with a simple structure, easy to implement and maintain.
2. Stable operation
It can maintain stable operation of the motor in a wide speed range and is suitable for a variety of working conditions.
3. Low cost
Due to the simple control strategy, the hardware and software costs are relatively low.

Disadvantages of V/F control

1. Poor dynamic performance
V/F control cannot adjust the voltage and frequency in real time, has a slow dynamic response, and has poor ability to adapt to load changes.
2. Low control accuracy
It has poor adaptability to changes in motor parameters, and relatively low control accuracy and efficiency.
3. Poor low-speed performance
When running at low speed, the magnetic flux of the motor is difficult to keep constant, resulting in a decrease in torque and unstable operation.

Application scenarios of V/F control

1. Fans and pumps
It is suitable for fan and pump control with constant load characteristics, which can achieve energy-saving operation.
2. Conveyors and mixers
It is used in occasions where speed requirements are not high and load changes are small.
3. Others
It is suitable for some industrial equipment with low requirements for dynamic response, such as compressors, mixers, etc.
