The protection rating of mining distribution boxes is not a single fixed value, but varies depending on their specific operating environment and explosion-proof type. Generally, the protection rating requirement is IP54 or higher.

news-1-1

I. Meaning of Protection Rating (Last Two Digits of IP)

According to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard, the IP (Ingress Protection) rating consists of two digits:

First Digit (Dustproof):

5: Not completely prevents dust ingress, but the amount of dust entering will not hinder normal operation of the equipment or affect safety.

6: Completely dustproof; dust cannot enter (dusttight).

Second Digit (Waterproof):

4: Splashproof (splashes from any direction should have no harmful effect).

5: Jetproof (jets from any direction should have no harmful effect).

6: Resistant to strong jets of water (strong jets of water have no harmful effect).

8: Continuous immersion (can be continuously immersed in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer).

II. Mining distribution boxes are mainly divided into:

1. General-purpose mining distribution boxes (suitable for mines without explosion hazards)

These distribution boxes are used in coal mines where there is no risk of gas or coal dust explosions.

Common core protection level requirements: Usually not lower than IP54.

IP54 meaning: 5 represents dustproof (dustproof, not completely prevents dust from entering, but the amount entering is insufficient to affect the normal operation of the equipment), 4 represents waterproof (prevents water splashing from all directions).

2. Explosion-proof mining distribution boxes (suitable for mines with gas and coal dust explosion hazards)

These distribution boxes have explosion-proof enclosures and are used in environments with explosive gases.

To ensure safety, their enclosure protection level is usually higher:

Common protection levels: Mostly IP65 or IP66.

IP65 meaning: Completely dustproof and prevents water jet ingress.

IP66 meaning: Completely dustproof and prevents strong water jet ingress.

Higher levels: In some core high-voltage power supply equipment, the protection level requirements are even more stringent. For example, some intelligent, explosion-proof, and intrinsically safe high-voltage combined power distribution units for mining applications have all high-voltage components with an IP68 protection rating. This means the equipment is completely dustproof and can operate in environments with continuous immersion in water.

The higher the protection rating, the higher the requirements for the equipment's sealing, which may pose challenges to the heat dissipation of internal components. Therefore, when selecting mining power distribution boxes, a higher rating is not always better; rather, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the actual safety requirements and operating environment.
